The Driven Partridge Shooting

The estate has an area that covers 3,000ha which has been set aside for the driven shooting. The terrain is made up of many ravines and small valleys which provide the ideal partridge shooting landscape. The estate prides itself on careful environmental and eco-system management which encourages a high natural population of wild partridges, making the shooting at Malaguilla even more special and challenging. There is a choice of 30 different drives on the estate, which ensures that returning parties will have plenty of variety on consecutive day’s shooting and return visits. A typical day will involve 3 drives in the morning with a short break for drinks after the 2nd followed by 2 more drives in the afternoon. Each day guns will be allocated a loader and secretario who will take care of your guns and cartridges throughout the day.

Location and Environment

The Guadalajara province of La Mancha is located in central Spain slightly north east of Madrid. The temperature averages a very pleasant 12c/54f from the start of the shooting season to the end and is a welcome break from winter. The consistency of the weather and local climate means that it is very rare for a day’s shooting to be adversely affected. Around the rocky outcrops and valleys the area is covered in arable land with crops predominantly consisting of a mix of cereals and olive trees.

Malaguilla Lodge

The Lodge is located just outside the small and picturesque village of Malaguilla. Malaguilla Lodge is built in the same style as the local architecture and has all the modern comforts a shooting party should expect. The 11 double en-suite bedrooms are stylish, clean and spacious as well as being fully air conditioned. There is also a dining area, sitting room, billiards/gun room and a fully stocked bar, all drinks being included in the shooting package.

During your stay you will enjoy a delicious assortment of Spanish food, all of which is complemented by a selection of fine local wines. Your lunch will typically be served ‘al fresco’, in the field, alongside a tiny Spanish church with some inspiring views.

The Service

Each day is personally supervised by Ignacio S. de la Maza Ybarra. Ignacio has been running Partridge shooting estates in Spain since he retired from banking 10 years ago. He knows how fundamental a personal service is to the success of the day and the enjoyment of his guests. Upon your arrival at Madrid Airport he will be there to meet you and oversee your guns being cleared by customs and this personalised standard of service will continue for the duration of your visit. Malaguilla will only ever have one team of guns out on any day, ensuring that the focus is solely on your team’s enjoyment and the quality of the shooting.

Best Time To Go

The Spanish partridge season in this region runs from 8 October to 8 February.

Getting there

Malaguilla is situated 80kms north east of Madrid. The drive from the Airport to the Lodge takes no more than an hour, allowing guests from the UK or Europe to arrive after work on Friday evening and return home by Sunday evening after two days’ shooting.

A local airstrip means that guests arriving by private jet can be in the lodge minutes after touching down in Spain.
