The Shooting

There are few places which can proclaim the sort of distinguished pedigree in the shooting world as that on offer at La Nava. The father of Javier Medem, who heads up the shoot, Roberto Medem is considered Spain’s foremost authority on driven-partridge shooting. A visit here will confirm why. These birds are ‘trained’ to fly harder and faster and it is probably only when you have faced the relentless onslaught of these veritable bullets that you will truly appreciate the quality of the sport provided at La Nava. Over the course of the day’s driven shooting everybody’s strengths and weaknesses will be tested and complacency is simply not an option!

Location and Environment

The estate of La Nava is located in Castilla La Mancha in central Spain. It is situated to the south west of Ciudad Real between Toledo, Granada and Cordoba. La Nava covers 25,000 hectares (61,700 acres) of mixed landscape from rugged red-rock to dry olive-bearing rough farmland.

La Nava Lodge & Staff

The newly built lodge has been designed to provide guests with the utmost luxury; the gym, sauna and pool are just some of the facilities that are on offer. Facilities aside, it is the level of service that makes La Nava stand out. The phalanx of uniformed white-gloved staff that will greet you on arrival hints of what lies in wait. The cuisine is superlative; the La Nava speciality, flambéed partridge is exceptional. The rooms are as majestic as you would expect to find in any top notch sporting lodge, whilst retaining a uniquely homely feel, and were it not for the anticipation of the day’s activities, then prising people from the sumptuous and individually decorated bedrooms would be mission impossible.

The Service

The staff at La Nava are geared up to ensure that your stay will be second to none. From collection at the local airport to the service in the field you can expect highly professional attention throughout. The ‘secretarios’ and loaders who will look after you throughout the day are a team of young, dynamic and forthcoming attendants professionally engaged in executing their job with dedication. The energetic cries of ‘ole’ are unquestionably passionately inspired. Even the teams of pickers up and accompanying dogs share the sense of purpose and drive.

Other Activities

Non-shooting partners are extremely welcome and of course are encouraged to join the day’s sport. The day is a veritable spectacle. Mounted riders, fabulous landscape, a fine climate and the team of guns and accompanying assistants all make the day extremely memorable. Equally, they may wish simply to stay at the lodge relaxing and enjoying the facilities. The dominating views from the lodge and from the pool area are an incentive enough for many guests to stay behind! Alternatively, cultural visits accompanied by a translator can be arranged to Toledo, Granada or Cordoba. There is horse riding and an 18-hole golf course just 15 minutes from the lodge. After the shoot guests can enjoy the spa, massages and treatments etc.

Best Time To Go

The Spanish partridge shooting season in this region runs from 8 October to 8 February.

Getting there

Fly to Madrid where you and your team will be collected at the airport by one of the lodge representatives, followed by a 2-hour drive to La Nava. The estate also has its own private runway capable of handling private jets. Situated only minutes from the lodge, it allows private parties or corporate groups to arrive with maximum ease and minimum fuss.
