Guest Comments

"I had the pleasure of shooting my first deer with the professional guide on the estate. I hope it will be the first of many, a truly great day and wonderful experience"
Olly Finding August 2007

The Stalking

The estate offers the option of stalking by foot or from one its many high seats. The keeper has worked on the estate for 18 years and is as resourceful and knowledgeable a stalker as you are likely to find. He will accompany you during the stalk however he will allow experienced stalkers to take the lead if requested. The prime time to conduct the stalk is either at dawn or dusk when the deer are most active and you will be advised prior to arranging your visit as to the best time to come dependant upon local conditions. There is a good chance that you will be given the opportunity to shoot either a bronze, silver or gold trophy Roe Buck.

Location

The estate is located near Newbury, a one-hour drive from London. Around the area are the historic cities of Winchester and Salisbury as well as the mystical Stonehenge. All of which are worth a visit between morning and evening stalks.

Accommodation Options

There are a wide number of locations where you can stay prior to or after the days deer stalking which we can arrange depending upon your requirements. A couple of examples:

  • Esseborne Manor: The Manor is located on a hill overlooking the Bourne Valley, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Manor has been converted from a private country retreat in to a stylish hotel whilst retaining a homely feel. Esseborne Manor is located 5 minutes by car from the estate.
  • The Jack Russell: Located within the village of Faccombe is the Jack Russell pub, which is a very quaint and friendly local pub. They offer B&B accommodation

Best Time to go

The best time to go is mid July to mid September as earlier in the season the antlers can still be covered by velvet.

Roe Buck: April 1st – October 31st
Fallow Buck: August 1st – April 30th
Muntjac: No closed season

Rates

The trophy fees are payable upon a successful stalk, dependent on the deer that you shoot. The stalker will provide you with his best possible estimate as to the trophy size before you take the shot to avoid any unnecessary expenses. Rates for a mornings stalking, including a non trophy Roe Buck up to 300 grams are from £270 inc VAT
